An East Peckham man has been locked up for more than three years for his part in a robbery at a catering distrubition firm in Aylesford.

Andrew Rapo, 32, of Pattenden Gardens, appeared before Maidstone Crown Court on August 20 and was sentenced to three years and four months.

The court heard how, on January 14, two masked men broke into the site in Aylesford, assaulted a security guard and stole more than £26,500 in cash and cheques.

A member of staff came forward to police, recalling a conversation he had with Andrew Rapo - an employee at the site - who had previously enquired about the security arrangements.

DNA evidence later linked Rapo to the scene and he was arrested, reports Kent News.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Claire Hammond from Kent Police said: "This was a frightening episode for the security guard, who was tied up and assaulted when he was simply trying to earn an honest living.

"Rapo must now serve a considerable prison sentence and we have made an application under the Proceeds of Crime Act to recoup the money that was stolen that has never been recovered."
