A warning has been issued to the owners and drivers of Mercedes Sprinter vans that are being targeted by thieves.

Kent Police has received reports of thefts of catalytic convertors from vans in West Kent and the Thanet, Dover and Folkestone areas.

It is believed that the convertors are being taken due to the value of metal that they contain.

Following some basic crime prevention advice can help to keep your vehicle safe:

• Keep vehicles under cover and out of sight where possible.

• If vans have to be parked at side of road, park under street lights.

• A lock can be fitted that makes it more difficult to remove the convertor. This is available from Mercedes service centres.

Anyone with information about the thefts should contact Detective Sergeant Pip Richardson at Kent Police on 101 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
