Recycle low energy light bulbs in and around Tonbridge
Low-energy light bulbs should be recycled because they are classed as hazardous waste. The bulbs contain minute quantities of mercury, normally no more than 4mg per bulb, and are not dangerous to human health. However, in larger quantities they could pose a risk to the environment and should therefore be recycled sustainably.
Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council has teamed up with recycling specialist Recolight to install the bins, which can be found at:
- * Asda, Kings Hill
- * Sainsbury, Quarry Wood
- * Sainsbury, Tonbridge
- * Community Centre, Snodland
- * Tonbridge Farm, Tonbridge
Cllr Howard Rogers, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, says: "We are pleased to be working with Recolight to offer this new and important recycling service to residents. Most people know that it's not a good idea to just throw low-energy light bulbs away and these new easy-to-use bins provide the perfect way to make sure the bulbs are recycled safely."
Nigel Harvey, CEO for Recolight, says: "This is an important and exciting partnership which will open up vital new channels for the public to recycle their old low-energy light-bulbs. People want to recycle their old bulbs but are often unsure of where the nearest facilities are. These containers will be visible to thousands of members of the public every week and we hope that this will help make a difference to recycling in the local area."
Further information on recycling in Tonbridge and Malling is available on the Council's website or call the Waste Services team on 01732 876147.
Do you think this is worthwhile - or should we improve other recycling facilities?
