The Tonbridge Angels striker was injured last year
Mikel Suarez, right, is hoping to be back playing soon
It is almost three months since he received an horrific injury which saw him being placed into a medically-induced coma for six days after suffering bruising on the brain.
It came after a clash of heads with team-mate Lee Browning at Farnborough on October 13. The 26-year-old also suffered damage to his eye socket.
But last night, Angels' fans were heartened to hear that he had returned to 'light training'.
The official Tonbridge Angels Twitter account stated: Great to see Mikel taking a gentle jog round the pitch at Longmead this evening, welcome back big fella'.
Player Frankie Collin said via his @10_frannie Twitter account: 'Great to see my #thunderbuddy back at training tonight... Mr Mikel Suarez!!! Great to have a big man back!!'
And @KentishFootie said: 'Tonbridge Angels striker Mikel Suarez started his long battle towards match fitness by returning to light training tonight.'
Suarez issued a heartfelt statement to fans in November as he recovered from the injury.
He said: 'I want to thank everyone for the fantastic support and kind messages I and my family have received since my unfortunate accident in the match against Farnborough in October.
"These have been transmitted to me and have sincerely helped me in remaining positive during my recovery.
"My family have asked me to especially thank Tonbridge Angels, all the management, Tina (Jenner), players, staff and fans since they have made this difficult period as tolerable as possible.
"I would also like to thank my ex-Loughborough University teammates and staff, and all the clubs and fans who have messaged both the club and myself wishing me a speedy recovery, it is very much appreciated."
