Summer holidays are looming - here are details of the Summer Playscheme and Activate programmes from Tonbride & Malling Borough Council.

The Summer Playscheme is for children aged 4 - 11 years. The scheme runs weekdays from Monday 30 July to Friday 17 August and offers a wide range of activities including arts and crafts projects, competitions, games, dance workshops and a variety of sporting activities.

The Playscheme will run at 13 venues across the borough from 9am to 1pm. Each site has a qualified team of staff who are vetted by the Criminal Records Bureau and trained in basic First Aid. All of the centre managers are qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Playwork or equivalent and all sites are inspected by OFSTED to ensure compliance with the Early Years and Childcare Registers. The activities cost £36 per week per child or £11 per week per family for Leisure Pass holders.

The Council also offers a Playscheme Plus programme for children with additional needs including special educational needs and/or physical disabilities.

Summer Activate runs from Monday 23 July to Friday 17 August and is for young people aged 8 - 16 years.  Summer Activate will focus on a range of more unusual activities and courses including windsurfing, kayaking, tree jumpers, mountain biking, film making, fencing, special effects and character make-up, fashion recycling, jewellery making, drama, circus skills, music technology, dj-ing, golf, badminton, street dance, fishing, junior rangers, photography and outward bound activities at Carroty Wood.

Cllr Maria Heslop, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Youth and Arts, says: "It's going to be another great action-packed summer and I would like to thank all the local clubs and organisations who have worked closely with us to organise such a wide variety of activities for young people across the borough again this year. There really will be something to suit all ages, tastes and abilities but please don't leave it too late to book as places are being snapped up quickly as usual."

Details of all the activities can be found in the Summer Playscheme and Summer Activate brochures which are available from schools, libraries, leisure centres, parish councils, on the Council's website or by telephoning 01732 876166 or emailing leisure.services@tmbc.gov.uk.
