Six hardy Tonbridge Angels FC supporters will be WALKING the 300 miles to their December fixture against Cornish side Truro City.

Alongside a support crew, the group will leave Tonbridge on November 21 and arrive at Truro's ground before kick off on match day - Saturday, December 1.

The six walkers are Dean Lewis, Darren Apps, Ashley Baker, Philip Hurst, Robert Whiting and Colin Hill.

Mr Apps said: 'There is a serious reason behind this mad adventure.

'That serious reason is to raise funds both for the football club (to kick start a fund for a new clubhouse) and also for a chosen charity involved in research into the treatment of Multiple Sclerosis.

'The route has been worked out and the team will be walking almost 30 miles per day. They will be sleeping in tents at night in order to cut the overheads of the trip.'

He also revealed that a collection bucket would soon be set up to raise cash for struggling Cornish club.

He said: 'We are well aware that future of Truro City Football Club hangs in the balance and have been monitoring events down in Cornwall very closely over the past couple of weeks.

'News has been very mixed but in the last week the coaching staff, most of the players (only four have left) and most importantly the fans have started to pull together in a concerted effort to rescee the club to allow it to continue to play the remainder of the season in the BSS.

'This does involve finding a buyer for the club which is not easy but lets be postive. They are doing all the right things to give that the best chance of happening.

'We are going to start a bucket collection so please give generously. Even if Truro does end up being wound up your money will not be wasted as the two chosen causes MS and a new club house are both very worthy and the sticky plaster and string holding the clubhouse together will not last for much longer.'

Details of the walk, where they will be each day, how to sponsor the team and how you people can play a part in it are on the website www.tonbridgeangelsonline.co.uk

Participation in any form is not restricted to TAFC members or supporters.

People who want to join the group in any way sould contact Darren Apps on 07952 908716 or email darren@tonbridgeangels.co.uk.
