Tonbridge man Daniel Turowski has been ordered to pay Australian Olympic sprinter Andrew McCabe £500 in compenation after he admitted stealing his kit.
The 28-year-old thief, of Alexandra Road, was also given a 12-month community order with a supervision requirement.
He admitted theft at an earlier hearing before Sevenoaks magistrates, the BBC reported.
Turowski took McCabe's bag, which had personal items and his national kit, from a bench beside the running track at a Kent school on 3 August.
The Australian athletics team had been using Tonbridge School as its training camp.
Mr McCabe was training for the 4x100 metres relay when the incident happened.
