Landlords in West Kent are invited to attend a free event on Thursday 11 October to find out how they can protect their properties and their profits.
The West Kent Landlord Fair, which will take place at Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council's offices in Kings Hill, will begin with refreshments at 4.15pm and landlords will have a chance to look round a special exhibition.
From 5pm, there will be a series of presentations on a range of key topics including:
"Green Deal – the Kent perspective" by Carolyn McKenzie, Kent County Council
"Fire Sprinklers – the ultimate protection from fire – zero fatalities and cost effective" by Gary Graham, Kent Fire & Rescue Service
"Get your repairs done!" by Tim Crook, solicitor, housing law services
"Landlord update" by Marion Money, National Landlords Association
Landlords will also have the opportunity to take part in workshops to learn more about welfare reform, tax issues and the Housing, Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS). The Fair will finish at 9pm.
The West Kent Landlord Fair has been organised in partnership by Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, Sevenoaks District Council and the National Landlords' Association. The partnership organises an information Forum for landlords three times a year but has expanded the event this time to include an exhibition and workshops on key topics.
Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Jill Anderson, says: "Once again the West Kent Landlord Fair will provide landlords with the opportunity to pick up some key information. There are excellent speakers, workshops and an exhibition and with so much available under one roof, as well as the opportunity to network, I am sure landlords will find this a particularly useful session."
Marion Money, NLA Representative for Kent, says: "The Landlord Fair is an ideal opportunity for 'forward looking' landlords in Kent to learn about the changes afoot in the private-rented sector. The programme of talks and workshops will cover topics of great relevance to landlords and tenants in Kent, including the Green Deal and changes to Local Housing Allowance. It is important that landlords keep abreast of these changes so that they can work with their tenants. The Fair also provides ample opportunity for landlords to network with their industry colleagues from the local area."
As places are limited, landlords are asked to book in advance by calling 01732 876395, faxing 01732 876202 or emailing privatesectorhousing@tmbc.gov.uk.
