Anyone like riding horses? Anyone dream of riding the ranges of Texas? My daughter did so she decided to live the dream and now she is a wrangler on "The Long Ride".

The Long Ride 2010 follows the US  cattle trails of the 1860’s - 70’s, including, the Goodnight-Loving and Western Trails, starting west of Dallas, Texas, going west, south-west to the southern New Mexico border, turning north along the Pecos River and going due north through New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and terminating near the site of the Battle of Little BigHorn, Montana.

She set off on 4th April and is expected  to reach Montana in October after 2,000 miles of horseback riding and sleeping rough.

That sounds fantastic. I used to dream about riding along Montana. Instead I ended up with  riding along the Great Barrier Reef trying to dodge any jellyfish.

Wow! If you have time in the post election lull it would be good to see some pictures - My niece would love to do something like that too. Is she on a gap year?

She just gave up her job and went but with her bosses blessing and mine. When she said had the opportunity to follow her dream I told her to take it whilst she is young, if she didn't she would regret it for the rest of her life. GaryGee50, if your niece gets the chance to follow her dream tell her to take it.
I don't seem to be able to embed the video but you can watch it here tinyurl.com/2vuf37o

And spot the mistake in the text.  "Keep yourself between the animal and the ground.", I don't think so.

Yes, I think she should go for it but I think dreams are ageless. It is harder as you get older though but why not, if you can do it. I knew someone in their 40s who sold her house and travelled the world. I have achieved some sporting dreams but now I am onto the next one.

She's just crossed the border from Texas in to New Mexico.
They are riding about 25 miles a day and now it is getting really hot. She said the daytime temperature is 115F.
The google map showing their progress up to day 36 has been updated tinyurl.com/28lz3xk
I'll see if I can put up a picture.
Sorry for not posting more. It's not that I won't it's just that I am only hearing from her sporadically; ****'s not that easy to get a phone signal and even harder to get internet connectivity when you are in the Texan plains.
