Rory Bremner asks "What Do You Think This Is – A Bloody Charity?"
Monday 28th January, 7.30pm. Tickets: £12 from http://tinyurl.com/2vr7q8j 01732 304241.
Rory Bremner, much-loved national institution of political comedy, brings his unique perspective to the subject of business and charity in general and the transformative impact of The Nehemiah Project in particular.
The Nehemiah Project was set up a decade ago by a Sierra Leonean called Richard Cole. It was the only place that would give shelter to rescued child soldiers. In fact Cole would go into the bush, at considerable personal risk to himself, to negotiate with the rebels for the release of some of their child soldiers. To date more than eight hundred war-affected children have been through the Nehemiah Project and, now doctors, lawyers, teachers, carpenters and mechanics, they have spread across Sierra Leone.
Following Richard Cole's death, the project is now run by PJ Cole (Richard Cole's son) and four of the original child-soldiers. Rory will introduce you to PJ Cole and these remarkable young men and you will hear their compelling and transformative stories.
But the focus of the evening will be on their use of social entrepreneurship – using business nous to make the world a better place – as a radical new alternative to traditional charity.
This is a funny, moving and uplifting evening, which is guaranteed to leave you entertained, enriched, excited and inspired.
