Bewl Water gets creepy this Halloween

From 23rd October to the 31st October Bewl Water will be transformed into a terrifying full on Family event.

Starring the Headless Horseman in the Forest of Fear - a wonderland for the timid imagination!

A timed and led tour will be operating from the arrival point into the Forest of Fear where you will be haunted by the spooks and spectres on your way to the Haunted Cabins.

Take a tour across Bewl's reservoir a 31 million litre expanse which when flooded to create the reservoir took with it forever, various properties, some of which they say are still inhabited by the lost souls of their previous owners. Once across the lake you can feed the blood thirsty piranha's and watch the water bubble and boil as the fish go into a feeding frenzy!

The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the Other world became thin on Halloween, allowing spirits (both harmless and harmful) to pass through. The family's ancestors were honoured and invited home while harmful spirits were warded off. It is believed that the need to ward off harmful spirits led to the wearing of costumes and masks. Their purpose was to disguise oneself as a harmful spirit and thus avoid harm. To avoid getting caught out by the evil spirits make sure to dress up in Fancy Dress for your chance to win the Best Dressed Ghoul competition. Face Painting will be available in the giant marquees in the Visitor Centre along with many other fun activities for the family.
