Can Tonbridge People Help Kent In WWF UK's Earth Hour Challenge?
By rsalmonuk | Thursday, March 17, 2011, 10:09
WWF UK is urging Tonbridge residents to switch their lights off for Earth Hour 2011 at 8:30pm on Saturday 26
March.
By signing up, you will not only be showing you care about tackling
climate change and safeguarding the natural environment, you will also
help Kent in WWF UK’s Earth Hour County Challenge - a table that ranks
counties based on the percentage of the population that sign up to Earth
Hour.
Kent are currently 80th in the table - behind neighbours Surrey (10th), East Sussex (27th) and Essex (68th). Your sign up could help Kent move up that table!
Climate change is the biggest threat to our planet right now and by
taking part in Earth Hour, you will call on the government for action to
‘clean up’ our energy supply and reduce the impact it has.
Colin
Butfield, Head of Campaigns at WWF UK said: ‘'Earth Hour is not only a
powerful global message but also an important local one. Every family, school, business and organisation that joins in
will be an important part of our event in WWF's special 50th
anniversary year.'
Last year in the UK, over 13 million people took part and more than
130 high profile landmarks such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the
London Eye, Edinburgh Castle, the Millennium Stadium and Stormont
switched off.
