Tonbridge holidaymakers looking to fly overseas are fairly well placed when it comes to airports and channel ports.

But from next year travellers can add another name to this list of nearby airports – Southend in Essex.

easyJet has announced it will begin operating from London Southend Airport from April 2012.

There will be 70 flights per week and passengers will have a choice of around 10 different European destinations including the Costa Brava, Costa de Sol, Majorca, Barcelona, Faro and Ibiza.

London Southend Airport has a multi-million pound new terminal opening in autumn 2011. The improvements have been made to help deal with the increase in passengers expected to be flying into the UK for the 2012 London Olympics.

Southend Airport is around an hour's drive from Tonbridge but if you prefer the train to take the strain the terminal is located within a minute's walk of a new train station

easyJet has signed a 10 year partnership agreement with Stobart Group, owners of the airport.

Catherine Lynn, easyJet's Customer and Revenue Director, said: "We are excited to be opening London Southend as easyJet's 20th base airport. The airport is in a fantastic location just outside London with a fast rail link into the city."

Would you use it?
