Liza's Diet for Charity UPDATE
By LizaDonoghue | Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 17:54
I am pleased to tell you that I lost another 4lbs this week bringing my total to 15lbs. So the charities, so far, from my loss stand to gain £470+!
How have I done it? Lots of fruit, vegetables, fish, lean meat, pulses, rye bread (absolutely delicious) porridge for breakfast - NO dairy, wheat, sugar and alcohol and, of course, the support from all my friends who have sponsored me, making cheating an absolute NO NO!
And plenty of walks with my Great Dane, Jake!

ReportHi Gary,
I've never bought it so I don't know what the price is like. I think that the loaves of granary that I buy at the market are about 50% more expensive than supermarket bread, but they're baked locally by a traditional baker and they taste fabulous. I just eat a bit less and I think it all evens out in the end.

ReportThat is a good idea but doesn't it cost a bomb at farmer's markets? The Hadlow Farm shop has some but v expensive sadly. :((

ReportRye bread is more expensive for a couple of reasons. Firstly it isn't grown as widely (and the area it's being grown is falling as it's going out of fashion) so that pushes the costs up. Secondly it's very susceptible to disease, so needs to be sprayed with expensive fungicides. That's what I've read, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
Have you tried looking for rye bread at the Hildenborough and Shipbourne Farmers Markets (Tuesday morning and Thursday morning respectively)?
