Lived in Tonbridge for 2 years now and I love how easy everything is to access. I don't live in the town center but its only a short walk away. The train station gives access to Redhill (for Brighton), Ashford (for Europe), Hastings (for the coast), and Central London is just 40 minutes away. A short drive gets you to Highbrooms Retail Park or a little further and the shopping delights of Tunbridge Wells. Further afield is Bluewater or even Lake Side. For a bustling town, just a walk away are sprawling playing fields, parks and country lakes full of wild life.
The High Street in Tonbridge appears to lack the attraction of any major retailers. It lacks a focal point. Both Pavilion and Angel parades act as merely a harbour for unentertained youths and feature no attractive design or styling to pull people in. The main High Street is busy, and frequent traffic lights allow you you to cross among the traffic but Id rarely make a point of shopping in Tonbridge unless id forgotten something. Tonbridge needs a facelift, a vision, a new focus with good parking capacity that isn't strangled by greedy parking rules. All of which I think can be achieved with the space and redevelopment requirements already sought after.
