Tonbridge Angels FC has issued a statement about an unofficial debate over alleged redevelopment plans.
The statement follows a flurry of comments and speculation
on the online fans’ forum, ‘Angels Online Fans’ Forum.’
One contributor, known as ‘Florida Angel’, and calling
himself a ‘Supporter Trusted Team Coach’ claims a millionaire Kent businessman
wants to buy a 50% stake in the club.
“Yes there IS an investor willing to come into the club,”
says Florida Angel. “The investor is a Kent businessman, a very wealthy
successful business man who is willing to invest over half a million pounds.
This would involve redeveloping the ground and providing new playing and
associated facilities. He is also prepared, as a gesture of his commitment to
maintaining the club, to put £20000 into the playing budget
immediately and for the benefit of the current management team.”
In response to the online debate, Tonbridge Angels said in
their statement: "The position is relatively simple. An unnamed
consortium proposing to redevelop Longmead Stadium have made contact with the
Board of Directors.
“The Board of Directors have not dismissed this
redevelopment enquiry but have simply requested a proper fully documented
business plan together with financial statements etc. in order to fully
consider the proposal further. Tonbridge Angels Football Club are currently
financially secure and debt free.
"Once the business plan has been received, the Board of
Directors together with Shareholders will fully review and will undoubtedly
seek further financial guarantees etc. from the Consortium. This process will
take as long as is required in order for the Club to be fully satisfied that
the proposal is proper, valid and financially secure.
"Tonbridge Angels Football
Club are, however, extremely surprised that negotiations appear to be taking
place on a fans forum!"
